Mill City Grows is creating access to fresh, healthy, affordable, locally grown fruits and vegetables in the City of Lowell! We create new farmers’ markets, farm stands, mobile markets, and winter markets to reach as many residents across the city and the seasons.
Mobile Market / Outdoor Markets
We currently implement a Mobile Market — our “Farmstand On Wheels” — that brings fresh, affordable, and culturally appropriate foods to neighborhoods throughout Lowell. Our Mobile Market fleet consists of two mobile trailers which make up to 10 stops a week at various outdoor locations in the city, including Lowell Community Health Center, Cross Point Towers, and Eagle Park Community Garden.
In addition to our outdoor Market stops, we also host an indoor market at the Lowell Senior Center (launched fall 2017), and participate in The Farm Market, Lowell’s year-round indoor market at Mill No. 5 every Sunday from 11am-3pm.
The Massachusetts Healthy Incentives Program (HIP)
Mill City Grows’ Mobile Market is proud to be a participant in The Massachusetts Healthy Incentives Program (HIP) which matches SNAP recipients’ purchases of local fruits and vegetables at farmers markets, farm stands, mobile markets, and CSA farm share programs. Mill City Grows Mobile Market shoppers can now instantly earn up to $40 per month for households of 1-2 people, $60 for households of 3-5, or $80 for households of 6 or more when you pay for your share using SNAP. See your Mobile Market payment debited from your EBT account on the same day you get SNAP benefits each month and then you will earn the HIP incentive automatically when your Mobile Market payment is posted. The earned incentives can be used right away, or saved for a future purchase at any SNAP retailer on any SNAP eligible foods.
