is ROOT at Mill City Grows
ROOT (Raising Organic Opportunities Together) is Mill City Grows’ 1,800 square foot, four-season community space where Lowell residents come together to engage in our local food system, prepare delicious meals, share knowledge and food traditions, and build lasting relationships. ROOT is utilized year-round, especially during the winter months when it opens to the public for our Pop-Up Mobile Farmers Markets and indoor workshops.
At the heart of ROOT is a 500 square foot commercial kitchen currently used to:
- process fresh produce for our Mobile Market
- prepare more than 100 weekly CSA deliveries
- taste-test recipes for after-school programming and farm to table cooking classes
ROOT has accessible outdoor parking and is fully accessible inside via an elevator lift.

ROOT Kitchen at Mill City Grows is available for rental use for your business, community program, or private event. Parking is adjacent to the kitchen entrance with a concrete ramp for easy loading and unloading of supplies. MCG’s ROOT Community Space & Kitchen was offically launched in March 2020 at the onset of the global pandemic shutdown. In lieu of an in-person launch and welcome event, this 20-minute virtual tour of ROOT was broadcast live across social media in September 2020 as our way of introducing this exciting space to our community.
